Spring Clean Your Body!

There’s nothing quite like the energy of springtime. Spring is what I like to think of ‘Mother Nature’s New Year.’ The season invites us to shed the weighty baggage (pun intended) that we may have incurred over winter and bring in a new, fresh outlook on our lives and on ourselves.

There is undoubtedly a fresh vitality and renewed desire that comes with spring to make positive changes in our lives that reflect the positive changes of nature.

Too deep? Sorry. Must be all the effects of the fresh spring air.

If this past winter (or even just the past few months for you Northern Hemisphere-ers) has left you feeling lethargic and sluggish, now is the time to rejuvenate your body and do a spring clean on yourself.

One of the best things about food is that they have different healing properties and characteristics, one in particular being that they have the ability to cleanse. No matter what your health goal, making a conscious effort to eat these naturally cleansing foods is a great way to start feeling better and cleaner.

Here is a list of ten foods that naturally detoxify and cleanse our bodies:

  1. Apples

Apples are high in pectin, which is a chemical that binds to cholesterol and heavy metals, making it an excellent cleanser for the liver and the intestines.

  1. Avocados

We all know avocados have numerous health benefits, but they contain a powerful nutrient called glutathione. This chemical aids the liver in detoxifying synthetic chemicals.

  1. Beetroot

Beets are powerful liver cleansers. They are super nourishing as well as a fantastic source of iron.

  1. Blueberries

What CAN’T these superfoods do? Blueberries work against inflammation and contain an antibiotic-like chemical that blocks harmful bacteria in the urinary tract. It also has the ability to block harmful toxins from crossing the blood-brain barrier!

  1. Cabbage
